A new Law on Mediation came into force on January 1st, 2020, which promotes the speedy, low-cost and efficient resolution of business disputes. In 2018 the European Business Association started a collaboration with recognized experts in this field and established the European Business Association Mediation and Arbitration Center to support its members.
On January 30th, a "Mediation and Arbitration for Business" event was organized. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce this new initiative to the business community and to deepen/strengthen the cooperation between interested business associations.
In the Framework of the meeting, the organizers, representatives of the businesses and various donor organizations spoke about Alternative Dispute Resolution.
The meeting was attended by Georgian Business Ombudsman Mikheil Daushvili, who discussed the importance of mediation and arbitration and related state support.
Also, a mediation expert, former Slovenian Minister of Justice Alesh Zalar, shared his own experience regarding mediation and arbitration for businesses.
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between EBA Mediation and Arbitration Center and Georgian Distributors Business Association. Based on this Memorandum, the EBA Mediation and Arbitration Center will provide free consultations for the members of the Association on mediation and arbitration.
The European Business Association plans further activities in this area, that will raise awareness and promote mediation and arbitration.
